The movie tells the story of the authorship, preservation and legacy of the song Home on the Range and the location where this “unofficial anthem” to the west was written, in Smith County, Kansas.

The movie features the talents of some well-known actors and musicians, including Rance Howard, Buck Taylor, Darby Hinton, Skip Gorman, Mitch Holthus, Mark Mannette, the legendary rock band Kansas, Michael Martin Murphey, the Sons of the Pioneers, Jed Marum and many more. “Home on the Range” is directed by Ken Spurgeon and produced by award-winning documentary film company, Lone Chimney Films in association with Sperra Studios.


BBQ Dinner and Entertainment

The barbecue dinner will be hosted by Voice of the Kansas City Chiefs Mitch Holthus and his wife Tami. Musical entertainment will be provided by The McKinney Sisters, a bluegrass gospel trio who appeared and performed in the movie Home on the Range. Here’s a taste of their toe-tapping music!


Additional details:
Those that play golf in the afternoon will have the option to hop aboard a bus at 9:00 am for a guided tour of the Home on the Range Cabin site. They’ll return to the Center Theater to see the 10:30 showing of the newly released movie “Home on the Range”, then head to the golf course to eat a bite of lunch and tee off at 1:00 pm.

Those that play golf in the morning will eat a bite of lunch after golf, followed by the Home on the Range movie at 2:00 pm and the guided tour of the Cabin site.
