KKAN – Cabin’s First Overnight Visitor in 126 Years
Released to KKAN Radio – April 25, 2014:
The Home on the Range Cabin, Smith County historical site, had its first human overnight visitor in 126 years when Beccy Tanner, Feature and Kansas History Writer for the Wichita Eagle, stayed in the Cabin the night of April 24-25, 2014.
Beccy, as research for a 2011 article on the Cabin, tried to stay in December of 2010, but froze out and stayed with Kathy and El Dean Holthus.
Beccy is one of the many strong supporters of Home on the Range. Her 2011 article in the Eagle triggered the explosion of donations that resulted in the complete restoration of the Cabin in 2013.
The trustees do not yet have a formal plan for others to stay in the Cabin, but who knows . . . maybe someday?
